'Time is Scarce But Values are Priceless: 21st Century Challenges for the Economy, Society and Culture'. Lecture by Marisa Xuereb, on 24 March 2026.
The Peter Serracino Inglott Foundation marked the 14th anniversary of the passing of Rev. Prof. Peter Serracino Inglott with a memorial lecture delivered by economist and entrepreneur Marisa Xuereb at Dar il-Ħanin Samaritan, Santa Venera.
Speaking on the theme “Time is Scarce but Values are Priceless,” Xuereb explored the economic, social, and cultural challenges shaping the 21st century.
Marisa Xuereb addressed the fundamental social transformation on which our future development depends: the importance of human intelligence for economic growth — and its coupling with the rise of Artificial Intelligence. “If we manage it well, AI will enhance human agency and well-being. If we let things drift, AI will erode human skills and judgement; it will itself be unable to reach its full potential.” Xuereb — a top executive for a global German company and former President of the Chamber of Commerce — spelled out the changes needed to our education system, workplace organisation and democratic culture. She paid tribute to Fr Peter’s prescient recognition and analysis of the challenges and ways forward.
The event opened with Mass celebrated by Rev. Dr. Jean Govè, the Holy See’s representative on the Council of Europe’s Artificial Intelligence Commission.
Foundation President Dr Louis Galea launched a new informal network, “Friends of PSI,” aimed at supporting the organisation of Fr Peter’s archives and promoting his intellectual legacy.
Established in January 2024, the Foundation is dedicated to preserving and advancing Fr Peter’s vision of human dignity, education, solidarity, and cultural engagement.
His archives are housed at the Monastery of St Peter in Mdina, while his books are kept in a dedicated section at the University of Malta Library, Valletta.
